Found in 2004 hiding out in a distant cave high up the back of Bendigo Station, a hermit woolly quickly found fame and attention on the local and world stage through a rather unusual set of events. Woolblind and suffering under the weight of his massive fleece he was taken down to the homestead where some local teens nicknamed him Shrek because he looked like an ogre. A local photographer's great shot of him made the front page of the Otago Daily Times and from there every media outlet in the country and then the world wanted to know about this hermit merino, who had evaded mustering for five years. Shrek became an important fundraiser for Cure Kids attending events the length of the country - even travelling by helicopter to an iceberg floating near the south coast of New Zealand.Shrek's strong personality has meant that he's a favourite with children and adults alike. This book tells his story and it's handsomely illustrated with many excellent photographs. It's a classic Kiwi story.
