Mystified by abstract art? Join an evening of engaging conversation and activities, and discover new ways of understanding the rhythms and patterns in Gordon Walters’ paintings.
WEDNESDAY 7 AUGUST
Have you ever stood in front of an abstract work of art and wondered what you’re meant to be seeing? You’re not alone!
Join art educator and artist Alice Fennessy for informal conversation and fun activities exploring the abstract artworks of Gordon Walters, one of Aotearoa New Zealand’s most famous artists. Using just a few simple shapes, Gordon Walters created an endless variety of visual effects in his paintings, which he described as “the expression of a feeling”.
We’ll meet at Hīnātore | Learning Lab, then go to the exhibition Gordon Walters: New Vision in Toi Art. There, we’ll develop a range of strategies for understanding Gordon Walters’ abstract artworks through a mix of conversation and individual response activities.
Light refreshments included.
